When somber Professor Post inherits $750,000 he decides to let go and travel. While at the bus station he befriends a troupe of performers, especially Pansy Peets and James Dodd. When the troupe cannot pay their bills, Post lavishly offers to fund their performance in New York. However, unbeknownst to all, Post s inheritance is a sham. It was a guise by Post s servant, who was worried that his employer was too serious and not having any fun with life. With a bad act, mounting bills and a vixen who is hot for his money, how will Professor Post get out of this hilarious mess?
While many considered the talkie movies Buster Keaton did at the end of his career, Speak Easily easily promises laughs from the beginning. With Keaton in the lead as Professor Post and Jimmy Durante as his friend James Dodd, the pair head an ensemble cast that includes Ruth Selwyn as Pansy Peets, Thelma Todd as Eleanor Espere and Hedda Hopper as Mrs. Peets.
