Produced by FRED COE, "Goodyear Playhouse" alternated each week with the "Philco Television Playhouse." "Marty" is probably the best remembered single drama from televisions "Golden Age." Made into a feature film two years later, the movie won an Acadamy Award for Ernest Borgnine as "Marty." Steiger plays the fat, homely butcher from the Bronx in search of a wife. Written with a searing slice of reality, "Marty" helped to make Cheyefskys reputation as a master of the live TV drama. Marty finally meets a lonely girl in a dance hall with whom he can talk and communicate. A beautiful story, especially touching for anyone who has ever been alone.
